Graphing Population Today in class we talked about three ways to graph ages in different countries. The first one is a population pyramid, or a xmas tree. It has the ages started at 0 going to about 90 and it shows how many of people there are of a certain age in a bar graph shaped like a triangle. The second way of graphing population is called the box. This is the the same type of idea and also has similar information like how they both show slow population growth and a short life expectancy. The third one is called the cup. This is in the shape of a cup and it shows negative growth, low birth rate, and a shrinking population.
In class today we talked about some things for a little bit. We went over our homework on the World Facbook. Everyone shared some of their 5 facts they did for homework. We also talked about birth rate and  how old people are. One country has 54 and they are mostly old so eventually the people in that country will be non existent, because older people can't have babies. One reason this country is doing well on population is because most people have stable jobs and good opportunity to reproduce and add to the population. We also went over the rate of where babies die in childbirth and it's relatively high, he said 2 of us aren't here because of the death of babies before or after birth.
I looked into the Pitcairn Islands for my 5 facts. I find it very interesting because they are the least populated country in the  entire world. They only have 54 people living there, making them 238th in the whole world.   The Pitcairn Islands have 0% agricultural land. 75% of the country is forest. There is 0% arable land, 0% permanent crops, and 0% permanent pasture.   The island has occasional tropical cyclones. This is dangerous for people living there because the island is so small and could be wiped out. They also have occasional landslides.  Their economy exists because of handicrafts, fishing, and mainly postage stamps. They don't have any system of currency and trade essential things. 15 of the 54 residents work, the rest don't do anything.  Another fact about them is that they are only three tenths the size of Washington, DC. Their total area is 47 square kilometers, making them the 4th smallest country in the world.
Death and birth rate Today in class we talked about people entering and leaving the United States. I learned that immigration is an excess amount of people entering the country. Emigration is when people leave their country and migration is when people enter the country. We also talked about the average amount of woman giving birth and for the amount of children woman would have to have conceive for the population to stay the same, which is 2.1. We also talked about why the age of women having babies have went up. One of the reasons is because more women have jobs then in the past, therefore they have babies later in their life. I was very interested in the information we learned in class today and I feel extremely educated on the topic and I hope we learn more.
Life expectancy Today in class we talked about life expectancy in different places and why certain people life longer than others. In almost all the countries around the world, woman live longer than men. There are many reasons on why they live longer. One is that in the military it's always mostly been men and thousands ands thousands of men would die each year, and still are dying to this day. Another reason is that woman tend to go to the doctor whenever they see a problem when most men don't care as much and don't see the doctor. Woman also tend to be smarter when it comes to making healthier decisions which means their less vulnerable for diseases. I really liked learning about this topic and I hope we learn about it more tomorrow.
Population In class today we talked about population. Population is the amount of people in a given area. In the early 1800s there was 1 billion people on earth and now there are 7.5 billion which is a 6.5 billion difference!   W e also learned how large the population of different countries are and how much their population is increasing including the U.S. it also said that the world population increases by 7.3 million per year and that the birth rate is higher than the death rate. I think that it's amazing because of how big the population is and how much it is increasing by.
Test Day! Today in class we had a unit test. At first, I wasn't very nervous because the last test was pretty easy. The first 15 questions were somewhat easy but then they got a bit more difficult. I don's think I got an A, but I'm pretty confident I'll get a B which is good considering I forgot to study. That was most of the reason I was a little nervous was because I forgot we had the test so I was barely prepared. Even though I wasn't prepared I think I still did pretty good and I hope I do this well on all my tests.
Playing a Game Today I class we talked about what's going to be on the test by playing a game. Demetri talked to the class for a little before we played then he asked all the questions during the game. At first, we were beating the other team by 2 points. After a while, they caught up to us and eventually beat us. I learned a lot of things while playing this game like the real definition of geography which is the study of Earth's surface. Another thing that refreshed my memory is that Socrates died from poison Hemlock and died a slow death while his organs shut down. I had a lot of fun and learned way better by playing this game and I hope I get the chance to play it again.
